Into the Wild is the first book of the ever-popular Warrior Cat Series by Kate Cary who goes under the penname of Erin Hunter, who is actually about four other people.

Plot[]

In the prologue, a clan of feral cats called ThunderClan are fighting over Sunningrocks with their rivals, RiverClan. Later, Bluestar, ThunderClan's leader, is sitting in the camp with Spottedleaf. Spottedleaf, the medicine cat of ThunderClan, recieves a prophecy, stating: "Fire alone will save our Clan."

Meanwhile, a kittypet named Rusty ventures off into the forest. He is briefly attacked by a ThunderClan apprentice named Graypaw. Graypaw tells Rusty about Clan life. They are being watched by two ThunderClan warriors, Lionheart -- Graypaw's mentor, and Bluestar. Bluestar is impressed by Rusty's abilities and asks him to join ThunderClan. Rusty goes home to think it over. On the next day, Rusty meets Lionheart and Whitestorm. He accepts Bluestar's offer and they travel back to the ThunderClan camp. Many cats do not agree with Rusty joining ThunderClan, so to prove himself, he fights a warrior named Longtail. Rusty wins, and Bluestar names him Firepaw. Then Firepaw soon goes on his first hunting assignment. While hunting, Firepaw finds an old cat named Yellowfang, who happens to be the exiled medicine cat of ShadowClan.

In the midst of this, Firepaw is devasted to find out that Spottedleaf has been killed by ShadowClan warrior. It is also discovered that Frostfur's kits had gone missing. Since Yellowfang is not present for this, it is suspected that she killed Spottedleaf and stole the missing kits. Firepaw, determined to prove that Yellowfang is innocent, sets out to get the kits and return them with Graypaw. Yellowfand and some ShadowClan elders help them. ShadowClan is defeated and ThunderClan successfully takes the kits home. After the battle, Graypaw and Firepaw are promoted to warriors for their courage. They are named Fireheart and Graystripe, respectively.
